Position : Assistant Quantity Surveyor

A reputable international Engineering and Construction company is looking to recruit an Assistant Quantity Surveyor for the position below:

POSITION/JOB TITLE: Assistant Quantity Surveyor

DEPARTMENT: Construction, Preferably on Government Agenda 111 Hospitals projects.


POSITION SUMMARY: Prepare tender and contract documents.

Main Responsibilities

Strategic initiative:

  • Assist in establishing the client’s requirements and undertake feasibility studies
  • Prepare cost plans to enable design teams to produce practical designs for construction projects, which involve liaising with architects, engineers and subcontractors
  • Prepare cost analysis based on the architectural drawings, engineering estimates, materials required and labour involved
  • Select, price and source construction materials
  • Advise commercial manager on procurement strategies
  • Prepare tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities with the architect and the client.

Relationship with contractors and subcontractors:

  • Evaluate tenders from contractors and subcontractors and, where appropriate, negotiate with the contractors
  • Select subcontractors, agree the scope of services and allocate work
  • Certification of subcontractor monthly valuations and final accounts
  • Value completed work and arrange payments to subcontractors.

Monitoring and evaluation:

  • Monitor all commercial information in relation to project including labour, material and sub contractor cost
  • Monitor and keep track of project progress
  • Control all stages of projects within predetermined budget and expenditure
  • Be responsible for the measurement and valuation of variations in the work during the contract, for agreement of interim payments and the final account
  • Carry out monthly valuations of work in progress, including forecasting of final costs and sales.
  • Run cost analyses for ongoing repair and maintenance work.
Required profile for job ad : Assistant Quantity Surveyor

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in quantity surveying, construction engineering, construction management, construction economics or related field.
  • 4 years of general construction estimating experience, financial experience, construction experience, or related field.
  • In-depth understanding of construction, materials, pricing, and industry

Required Technical Competencies:

  •  Good working knowledge of standard methods of measurement.
  • Good working knowledge of forms of contract currently used within the Building and Civil Engineering industry.
  • Have good understanding of how to perform cost control analysis.
  • Have excellent understanding of how to prepare valuations and variation claims.
  • Understand how to price project preliminaries in relation to extension of time.
  • Know the various methods of valuing preliminaries for an ongoing project.
  • Know the various types of contracts Fixed, Fluctuating, All inclusive etc
  • Understand site materials inventory management and control.
