Role: Payroll Administrator - Intermediate

Location: California (remote)

Rate: $26.50 - $35.00 per hour.

Status: Hourly, Permanent (Anticipate 20-30 hrs per week, O/T available as approved)

Most of our clients are critical infrastructure and high-value asset owners/operators, top-rated engineering firms, public safety/1st responders, and various levels of government. POSITION SUMMARY

The Payroll Administrator will be responsible for various payroll tasks, including onboarding and offboarding, payroll oversight and processing, and responding to questions related to time and attendance. Our company uses Bamboo HR as its employee management tool, and you will be expected to learn and adapt to the software quickly. Training and support will be provided for the software we use.

Day-to-day role:

  • Perform a wide variety of record-keeping and payroll processing activities, including computing wage and overtime payments, payroll submission, calculating and recording payroll deductions, processing requests for paycheck advances, and processing terminations
  • Ensure continual compliance with Federal and California State laws (Canadian payroll support not required for this role)
  • Assist management and staff by answering payroll procedural questions, as well as researching and resolving payroll problems and discrepancies
  • Be responsible for answering phone and emailinquiries regarding payroll
  • Complete verification of wage documents, tax forms, and other employee-specific deductions, etc.
  • Managing all incoming payroll cases/calls requiring payroll support knowledge and remain current on your understanding of standard and complex payroll transactions
  • Assist with payroll escalations for missing pay
  • Assist in year-end processing to ensure the accuracy of W-2s and 1099s
  • Overpayment calculations and collections
  • Garnishment processing
  • Leave of Absence process and calculations
  • Provide reports to management as requested
  • Assist in the development of improved company HR policies and procedures, which would also be provided to all employees as onboarding and refresher training
  • Other duties as assigned.

What we’re looking for:

  • U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (Green Card holder) or asylee/refugee status as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3),.
  • Requires intermediate-level job knowledge of payroll systems and industry best practices obtained through prior work experience or education
  • Experience in payroll administration related to California
  • Requires a minimum of 3 years of payroll experience
  • Requires proficiency in Microsoft products such as Excel
  • Requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to work independently from home or remotely while remaining responsive to company inquiries from management and staff
  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new processes and HR software

How to stand out from the crowd:

· Certified Payroll Professional

· The ability to pass a background security clearance check is a strong asset,

· Proficiency in various payroll systems is a strong asset. AVG uses Bamboo HR as its employee management software, which includes time tracking and payroll

· Experience with benefits management (will increase the hourly rate determined)

· English is the primary language in our company however, Spanish would be an asset
