General Manager Projects

The Company
Our client operates on a large-scale copper and cobalt deposits, both open pit and underground, with high-grade mineral reserves. Metals production is conducted using up-to-date metallurgical processing. They are one of the world’s largest diversified natural resource companies, producing and marketing over 90 commodities worldwide. The company’s operations include copper, zinc, nickel, cobalt, and precious metals mining.
 
The Role
This role reports to the Managing Director and is a permanent role based in the DRC – FIFO with rotational options of 6:3; 4:2.
 
The Responsibilities

• Delivery of operational and functional assessments and planning of the project activities, which includes:
• Execution plan for the Projects.
• 5-year budget to support the projects and continued operation.
• Risk assessments and action plans to address risks.
• Resourcing plan and supporting organizational structure.
• Coordinate and manage all activities under the Reprise of the project.
• Ensure that on-site work is supervised to expected HSEC and performance standards.
• Ensure that all work is carried out through a plan that is managed and controlled by risk.
• Develop an HSEC Recovery Plan in accordance with the site’s current HSEC plan.
• Complete an assessment of requirements for restarting mining operations and maintenance, including operational procedures, maintenance strategies and remediation activities.
• Conduct a gap analysis for site alignment with organization technical framework and recommend action plans to address identified gaps.
• Complete an infrastructure readiness and ancillary services assessment.
• Identify key contracts and procurement activities associated with the restart.
• Develop a commissioning and ramp-up plan for the restart in parallel with the technical copper, finance and marketing teams.
• Implement an integrated execution plan and associated organizational structure that supports organizations broader operations.
• Undertake a project risk assessment and implement controls to manage identified risks.
• Undertake an operational readiness assessment, identify key risks and draft action plans to address them.
• Develop a detailed budget including costs and production forecasts for operations during the 5-year budget period.
• Ensure that project reports are completed timeously.

The Requirements

• Relevant Engineering Degree
• Project Management qualification would be advantageous.
• 15-20 Years’ experience in mining operations with hands on leadership in large scale projects
• Delivery of large multidisciplinary projects
• Track record of success operating in developing countries.
• Limited travel within the DRC and to South Africa
